Great Things to Hear this Holiday Season in Los Angeles

Isn’t Christmas as we know it, in the popular imagination, a thing of Hollywood? With over a decade of experience treating hearing loss for the community around Los Angeles – specifically centered around Cerritos – we at Fidelity Hearing Centers hope you and your loved ones enjoy the holiday offerings this season. The Nutcracker, Los Angeles Ballet, through December 17 (various locations)

This magical Christmas tale is a favorite family tradition, with the story of Clara and her beloved nutcracker doll going on a whimsical adventure and meeting fantastical characters along the way. The Los Angeles Ballet takes its own spin on the classic, setting it in 1912 Los Angeles. Complete with Tchaikovsky’s original score, this is a not-t0-be-missed family event. Learn more here.

Los Angeles Philharmonic, Various Events throughout December

On December 14 and 15, accomplished pianist Khatia Buniatishvili performs Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A, K. 488 and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9 (a 90-minute performance), with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Originally from the country of Georgia, Buniatishvili has performed around the world, in Asia and South America, as well as Europe. Her work also involves numerous social rights projects including a concert to speak out against the violation of human rights in Russia in 2013. Join the Los Angeles Philharmonic on December 16 for the annual Holiday Sing-Along. This performance is hosted by Melissa Peterman and features conductor John Sutterman, the Angeles Chorale, along with Philip Smith on organ, Bryan Pezzone on piano, Bryan Taylor on percussion, and Sean Barrett on bass. They’ll cover all the holiday favorites, from “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” to “Silent Night”! Other sing-alongs at the Walt Disney Concert hall include A Chanticleer Christmas (December 19), and a White Christmas Sing-Along (December 23).

On Wednesday December 20, the dynamic Dianne Reeves performs Christmas favorites in the style of jazz. Reeves “takes classic songs and wraps them in her deeply personal approach, including carols from her album of Christmastime favorites.” Get your tickets to hear Dianne Reeves here.

Looking for a hoppin’ New Year’s Eve Party? Join the LA Philharmonic with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox on December 31! This pop-jazz band is internationally renowned for their fantastic, lively performances and genre-twisting sound. Cerritos Center for Performing Arts

If you’re sticking around Cerritos for the holidays, we’ve got plenty for you and the family to enjoy at the Cerritos Center for Performing Arts.

On December 9, The Colors of Christmas enters its 24th season, showcasing an annual performance of all-star vocalists with our favorite holiday tunes. This year, enjoy the vocals of Peabo Bryson, Marilyn McCoo, Billy Davis, Jr., American Idol champion Ruben Studdard, and Grammy Award-winner Jody Watley.  Get your tickets here.

If your kind of Christmas is an oldies kind of Christmas, then you’ll love the Hitmen, who perform on December 15. This band of musicians has toured for the past three decades with some of the biggest names in the music industry. This holiday season, they’ll perform a combination of platinum hits from Jim Croce, Carly Simon, Three Dog Knight, Carole King, and Cat Stevens, along with Christmas classics such as “Santa Clause is Coming to Town” and “So This Is Christmas (War is Over).” Get your tickets here.

For something a little more low-key, check out Tidings of Jazz and Joy with Keiko Matsui and Euge Groove, featuring Lindsey Webster and Adam Hawley. Matsui is best known for her Billboard hit albums, Sapphire, Dream Walk, and Deep Blue. She performs with saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Euge Groove, as well as singer-songwriter Lindsay Webster (“Fool Me Once”) and Adam Hawley (35th Street and Joy Ride). Get your tickets here.
