The Livio hearing aid, made by Starkey Hearing Technologies, was introduced in 2019. These Livio and Livio hearing aids feature Starkey’s latest technology based on their Thrive platform. The Livio AI includes all the features of the Livio and then uses sensors and artificial intelligence to take hearing and health care management to a whole new level. All of the Livio models are compatible with wireless accessories, like TV audio streamers and a remote microphone. They also have NFMi (near field magnetic induction) and 2.4GHz Bluetooth connectivity. Starkey studies suggest these features allow users to perform better in a dynamic real-world environment by up to 50%. There is also a Thrive smartphone app which provides a four-band equalizer, allowing wearers to adjust tones in the low, mid, high and ultra-high frequency ranges. This feature allows the user to truly customize and personalize their listening experience. The Livio and Livio AI can stream audio and phone calls from smartphones and are compatible with both Apple (iOS) and Android phones. Both also have a rechargeable option and features that help with tinnitus.
The Starkey Livio comes in 1600, 2000, 2400 and 2400 AI. The 2400 and 2400AI are their premium and premium-plus technology levels
The Livio AI tracks your activity using information received from the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) in the hearing aid. This technology incorporates a gyroscope and an accelerometer to measure the users body movement. These sensors track and assess your physical and social activity while you wear the hearing devices. Using the Thrive app, users will get a “Brain and Body Score” as a result of their daily behaviors. Users get points for how much they move their bodies. Livio AI counts steps, tracks physical activity and awards points for moving around. This is calculated in an overall “Body Score”. Then it measures how much brain benefit the hearing aid is providing across three parameters – the number of hours the hearing aid is worn, how engaged users are with other people, and the active listening environments that are participated in. The aim of the Brain and Body score is to make the wearer more physically and socially active since Research has indicated links between hearing loss, dementia, anxiety and isolation.
The Thrive app allows your Audiologist to remotely program the hearing aid. With this feature, you contact your Audiologist and let them know what sounds need adjusting in your hearing aid. They can then change your hearing aid settings remotely and send them to you to upload to your hearing aid(s). This not only saves you time, but also allows you to test the new settings in the comfort of your own environment.
